GOOD. RANDOM. FUN. V.14 {2016}

Oh... this is a cute way to advertise! ROYCE CAFE & COFFEE HOUSE (named for the owner, Joy & Rhoda, her daughter). GOOD coffee, tasty cookies & signage!

RANDOM... Loved this shoe form! How would you use this to decorate your home? I'm thinking I would use it as a bookend... or maybe add a couple of brushed silver knobs and use it to hang a coat or dog leash (if I had a dog!!)... Of course, you would have to hang it on the wall!

When we were in Ohio, we stopped by TAFT'S ALE HOUSE (downtown Cincinnati)... there were several parties of noisy (very, very noisy) people in the downstairs bar. As we passed the door to the outside, we discovered they were taking taking a BEER TOUR. You can check out these FUN tours by going on TripAdvisor.

Well, that's all for now!

YAD SDRAWKCAB...

Nottingham Flea Market - London, England
You say you can't read the title of my blog post? Ummmm. Today is BACKWARDS DAY. Check out THIS LINK to learn more...

Yes, a day that is more appreciated by elementary school students. A chance to wear your clothes BACKWARDS, or eat dessert before your dinner, or write cryptic notes to friends.

Not sure what I plan to do? but here are a couple of pictures from my archives... the first showing our last name spelled BACKWARDS.

Of course, it's BACKWARDS for Americans to look to the left before crossing the street. Fortunately, England helps us by painting a reminder on major street crossings... LOOK to the Left.

Enjoy spending your day doing things in reverse or BACKWARDS...

see you tomorrow... BTW, Monday is National FREEDOM Day! Did you know that?

GOOD. RANDOM. FUN. V46

JPE & I celebrated our 11th Anniversary last Thursday. We took a drive to Cambria, CA (a 40 minute drive up Hwy 1). The weather was beautiful... we had a tasty breakfast at Linn's Restaurant... peeked into our favorite stores... and enjoyed a GOOD ole' relaxing day... topped off with massages & Linn's Chicken Pot Pies followed by a sliver of Linn's famous Olallieberry pie with a dollop of ice cream. Ahhhh! we certainly know how to celebrate!!

After Sunday's downpour, I was checking out the tree in our front yard. I've been watching our tree with "eagle-eyes"... A couple of days ago I noticed a leaf that appeared to be falling. When I put on my glasses, I could see the leaf was tangled in a spider's web. RANDOM sighting! even with a half inch of rain & some wind, the web is still hanging onto its leaf. Yeah for Mother Nature!!

Today is National Button Day. I'll bet you a "card of buttons" that you didn't know there was a website dedicated to button collecting. I looked around on the website and found a resource link for new button collectors. As I mentioned in my post yesterday, I collect buttons for the "cute-ness"... my Instagram post gives some tips for using buttons in your elementary classroom!

time to "button my lips"
{sorry for the pun, couldn't help myself}
& link this post to Tamar's blog at Random-osity.

Come back tomorrow for a review of the book I finished this morning!

ISTANBUL STREET ART...

 Having nephews who appreciate street art & body adornments,
this post is dedicated to street art!
(ALL art was found in Istanbul)

bold & thin line lettering!

lettering = AMAZING!

Roger Rabbit & his motorcycle...

Mr. Spray Can...

building art near Galatasaray High School!

art in the alley way!

Spider Man & a modern woman...
(Bosphorus Strait)

Artist name? or musical instrument?
(at the bottom of the Galata Tower)

street art requires skill & talent... I can barely manage a paintbrush,
SO, I know using a spray can to create art must be a lot more difficult!!

GRAB YOUR FISHING POLE...

view from the breakfast room - AZADE HOTEL, Istanbul

why are all these boats in one area?
the fisherman are ALL fishing for bonita...
seems like it could be pretty competitive with everyone trying to catch the same fish??

tossing his line out!
The once abundant native fish are becoming scare (due to large fishing boats);
so fisherman have been known to become territorial about their fishing spots...
yelling at others who scare their fish away (or are trying to fish in the same area).

the Fish Market is still alive in the evening!
Do you suppose the fish go on sale as the evening gets later?

along the waterfront are boats that cook the day's catch &
sell it wrapped in a pita-type bread!

assembly-line for the dockside fish!
a typical fast food meal!

TOWARD THE SUN...

Q: which state grows the most sunflowers?

Young sunflower stems are supple... they face toward the east in the morning... and west at sunset.... as they mature, their stems harden and they stop moving.

The brown-black center of a sunflower is actually hundreds of tiny flowers all clustered together into one large center. The tiny flowers that make up the center go to seed after pollination.

TOURNESOL is the French word for sunflower. The Spanish word is EL GIRASOL, which means TURNS TOWARD THE SUN.

The tallest sunflower was 27 feet tall - about the size of a two-story building.

{these pictures were taken at the Avila Barn, in Nevada City and the Long Beach Quilt Show - YES, the second picture is a machine quilted sunflower}

Oh... the state that grows the most sunflowers?
K.A.N.S.A.S.
{they grow more than 11 species of sunflowers}

GOOD. RANDOM. FUN. {WEEK 18}

celebrated Cinco de Mayo yesterday at work! I saw this GREAT IDEA for making crispy shells in the oven. The directions mentioned laying the tortilla {which had been sprayed with oil} over two rungs on your oven rack. I did that with the first batch. Second round, I tried a single rung. My GOOD intentions were "smoking hot"... I didn't notice one of the tortillas had slipped off the rack and was burning under the bottom rack. Oops! I'll go back to frying my "torts" in a pan... it may not be as healthy, but the shells will be much crisper...

RANDOM. Saturday evening, JPE & I attended a fundraiser for a local organization. This little bird was part of the table decoration {which was auctioned off at the end of the evening}. I didn't win the plant, but my table-mate knew how much I loved the bird, so she grabbed it for me. I hope we have good "karma" this week? the sugary {sorry for the blur} figure topped our de-lish cupcakes, along with a single yellow flower! Carrot cake {mine} & chocolate {JPE's}... YUMMY!
{FYI - the person who won the table decoration, won 4 of them...
so, I didn't feel all that bad for accepting this cute, black bird}

This is what R.E.T.I.R.E.M.E.N.T. looks like. JPE broke the seal on a new puzzle... 1000 pieces of FUN!!! We have always joked that he would begin working the B.I.G. puzzles when he retired. No excuses now! We have a closet-ful of 500 piece puzzles... any puzzle-lovers out there?

Linking my post to Tamar's website...

give her a visit... loads of GRF.

GOOD. RANDOM. FUN. {WEEK 16}

 Posting with Tamar at RANDOM-OSITY...

JPE made his Gorgonzola Sauce for our pasta Saturday night. AND, it was tasty Sunday night! Why is it that leftovers taste so great the second time around? Is it because you don't have to start a meal from scratch {my opinion}? or the flavors have blended together {JPE's opinion}. Anyway... it was taaaa....ssstttteee! Yummy GOOD.

On Thursday, we had tea at Kreuzberg's on Higuera in SLO. The tables on their front patio have such interesting graphics. We had this RANDOM guy - doesn't he look a little like someone from the Simpson's?

If you follow my blog, you saw the bottom part of this sculpture last week. I love taking pictures of it! There are so many details, angles to capture, and cartoon-ish faces & bodies. Perhaps I'm drawn to this FUN sculpture because it reminds me of the characters who mime.

Well, if you ever visit San Luis Obispo, let me know & I'll share some of my favorite spots to take pictures.

Kathy has a darling photo for this week's SONG-OGRAPHY.

It appears she has been "out-of-town" and didn't tell us
where she was going! She was in LONDON!!! Lucky gal...

anyway, I pulled a few phrases from this week's song, UNDEFINED.
While other states are experiencing bone-chilling weather,
gusting winds, rain, sleet & snow...
California's hillsides are brown, dry & we'd LOVE it,
if another state would SHARE their weather with us!
We're getting close to having a drought!

We'll be heading back to work tomorrow, so once our Sunday projects
are completed, we're headed to see one more movie!
