BLANKET OF BLOSSOMS...

~ quote from Bishop Reginald Heber
Bishop Heber, an English clergyman,
served as the Anglican Bishop of Calcutta,
until his sudden death at the age of 42.
Also a hymn-writer, several of his writings are still found
in 21st Century hymnals...
the one I'm most familiar with is

During our two-day visit to Nevada City, we observed
several photographers with their tripods set-up outside IKE'S ---
capturing the beauty of the cherry blossoms.
Wednesday morning, while eating breakfast,
we watched a woman
spend 45-minutes taking photos from every angle.

this photo really doesn't capture the essence of the color,
nor the delicate-ness of the blossoms ---
carnation pink petals "d.r.i.f.t.e.d
from the tree onto the red-bricked patio

DREAMING...

"hand-made bowl" ~ OUTSIDE INN, Nevada City, CA
I'm dancing... excited...

we got our first estimate to get
the "cottage cheese" ceilings removed,
new flooring installed upstairs
& the bathroom shower redone
(the water is leaking under the linoleum)...

getting another estimate tomorrow morning...

my head is swirling with
the thoughts of rearranging furniture...
& selecting some new paint colors...

QUAINT-NESS...

cute, restored motor inn
we're in Nevada City (off Hwy 49)
This is our second stay here --- all the rooms are themed, quaint and your wallet will love this place!
...it's an easy walk downtown.
COME ALONG...

there are quaint mailboxes & picketed fences...
window boxes filled with pansies...
spacious porches & doors adorned with wreaths...
a place to get a massage...
and a church decorated with twinkly lights...
whimsical art and
AND, someone having a "spot of tea"
the delights of exploring with a camera...

Actually, the highlight was...
having a tasty brunch
with some dear friends + meeting their son, Alder, for the first time.
ahhhh... the pleasures of holding a sweet baby!!

SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY 3.24.13

SPRING BREAK!
yay! time to break out the camera...

Posting some new discoveries for SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY.
This week's words are: ASIAN, WAVY, DRAW, SOFT & TEXTURE.

ASIAN
We spent some time at the Japanese Tea Garden - an ASIAN influence was found at every turn in the pathway.
WAVY
Hayes Valley (a family-oriented neighborhood in San Francisco) is the home for this awesome sculpture with WAVY tendrils reaching to the sky. What you don't see is the children racing in & out of the bottom portion of this structure. It's almost like a house & has peek-holes for the kids to look out.
DRAW
Check out this very cool hand-DRAWN lampshade. One-of-a-kind... seen looking in a pub window (San Francisco).
SOFT
Spring has arrived in California. Everything appears to be in full bloom. This was definitely SOFT to the touch!
TEXTURE
One more shot from the Japanese Tea Garden! We loved the TEXTURE of this sign describing the statue of Buddha.

Don't forget to check Ashley's blog RAMBLING & PHOTOS.

Oh, and next week's are: WATER, EMPTY, FRESH, WEATHERED & ORDINARY. Consider getting your camera out & posting your interpretations!

EVERYDAY MIRACLES...

the trees are "defuzzing"
"Spring is sooner recognized by plants than by men."
  ~ Chinese Proverb
"balancing act"
"Lilies remind me of Easter"
"Mother Nature's perfectly spaced jewels"
"contrasting colors"
Puttering around on the patio this morning before leaving for WORK!

SPRING HAS....

3.19.13 ~ roof line at work
End of the work day (Tuesday evening)...
gosh, is SPRING arriving soon?

A bit breezy this morning...
the FIRST DAY of SPRING!

"Tom" was strutting his stuff! fanning his feathers... trying to impress the gals... don't think he was all that successful... the females are hiding in the bush (outside the work patio).

Looking defeated... ignored... POOR TOM!

SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY 3.17.13

week of the IRISH?

Welcome to SHS!
I think everyone had to stretch their "brains" to find this week's words! I know I did! There's an adorable "IRISH" picture on Ashley's blog... RAMBLING & PHOTOS. Check it out!

How would you capture: LUCKY, IRISH, DAYLIGHT, CLOVER & POT OF GOLD?
coastline ~ Big Sur ~ 11.08.04
I'm LUCKY to have someone as funny, caring, brilliant, energetic, non-judgmental and "grounded" as JPE.

I have a "wee-bit" of IRISH blood! Would love to travel to Ireland with my mom! She's been before, but I want to experience the trip with her!! How 'bout it MOM? this October? of course, I'd have to take a loan... ha! ha!

I attended a workshop this past week. It's amazing what you see when you get out of the office, during DAYLIGHT hours! I sense SPRING is on it's way...

Mom & Dad brought this bowl back from Ireland! Gosh, I'd been racking my brain trying to think of something with CLOVER. * lightbulb * my Beleek bowl. Another reason to visit Ireland... I'd like to take a pottery tour to learn about the process for creating these hand-painted pieces.

I couldn't remember the year my parents visited Ireland... but looking at the mark on the bottom of my bowl I know it was before the end of 1980. Unfortunately, my bowl was knocked off a bookcase & broken (the repair job was not the best ~ but, our housekeeper tried her best to gather all the pieces ~ I felt so bad for her)...

photo taken at Big Bear Lake ~ 2.9.13
I don't understand the scientific theory behind the "rainbow" particles in the sky... but I waited 85 minutes until the sunlight rose high enough in the sky to form a "V" and reflect that across the lake ~ felt like I'd found a POT OF GOLD.

Ummm... wonder where I can get a
dinner of corned beef, cabbage & boiled potatoes?
wish I lived closer to Mom!
