ha! it worked - they both called today, as well as the oldest (step-daughter). so - did your son apply to colleges out of your area? curious, where? I used to have a little college consulting business...
He is going to go the community college route at first but wants to choose a community college near a southern california UC so he can stay in the dorms and then transfer into the UC later. This is just a new idea so we are just starting to do research.
I helped students define their idea of a college experience (dorms-housing off-campus; small-large campus; rural-city; private-public; extra-curricular interests; asked them to identify reading that sounds interesting; reasons for selecting a campus; commuter college vs residential community; current interest in a particular major.... also worked with students on scholarship applications) It was sort of a hobby! I didn't ever charge money... but I enjoyed working with high schoolers to identify their strengths & to be able to communicate those in writing or during an interview process. I haven't done that sort of work for about 5 years now.
Aw. This is so sweet. You remind me to remember what I have right now. I know I'm going to feel just this way someday. :)
ReplyDeleteChris, I'm afraid this will be me in just a short time as my son will start college this Fall.
ReplyDeleteYou guilt those girls into calling you! It is allowed!
