SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY 9.14.14

all photos taken 9.13.14 @ VIA DEL COLORI
{San Luis Obispo, CA}

TRAVEL - JPE & I drove to SLO to see the chalk drawings! the artwork spanned two blocks with the featured artist drawing in the front of the SLO Mission.

I loved the chalk drawing of the colorful houses PACKED together! reminds me of being in a foreign city.

Each drawing space was outlined with duct tape & marked with the sponsor's name. Alice, the rabbit & the STRIPED Cheshire Cat appealed to Disney fans!

Mysterious, varying shades of green... one of my FAVORITE finished drawings!

TOO COOL! a balloon-maker, his "stock of balloons" and some girls patiently waiting for their balloon creature to be completed.

see you tomorrow!

CELEBRATING...

HOW ARE YOU CELEBRATING??
this is National Library Week (April 13-19th)...

This sculpture is located outside the former SLO County Library...
the newer library sits a block away, but I have found memories of taking my girls
to "this library" when they were toddlers!
{at the time, our city HAD NOT built the South County Library}

Today's plans, included getting JPE's i-Phone fixed, eating lunch at Urbane Cafe
& catching a movie at the Palm Theater {local indie theater}...
the final showing of Ernest & Celestine was showing at 4:15 today!

With our extra time, we slipped into the local bookstore {at Lydia's request}... one of the displays featured John Green's "The Fault in our Stars" which I mentioned I had just finished reading. Lydia said, "oh I flipped through the book... you DO KNOW they are making a movie about the book??" I realized then, I need to read more young-adult novels if I want to stay connected with the kids in our family.
{BTW, I loved this book & can understand the attraction for young readers}

between two worlds - technology & print

Lydia selected a new book --- one I never imagined she would ever "blink an eye at"
but, as long as she's reading, we'll buy her books!
I did ask if I could read the book after she was done!

Ernest & Celestine was originally produced in French. This animated movie was based on a beautifully written book {of the same name}, and features charming watercolor illustrations.

via
 it's adorable with a feel-good ending --- if you get a chance, see it!
as we were leaving the theater, Lydia said, "that movie reminded me of a book I saw at the library" --- it gave us another chance to chat about books that are made into movies.

I imagine Lydia has labeled us "different" because we don't watch TV or play video games.
BUT! she knows --- we READ!  {and go to movies}

reading w/grandpa {l-r}
by the campfire - Big Sur {2009}; our house {2006}; using headlamps - camping in Big Sur {2007}

So, what are you currently reading?
what young-adult novel have you read?

GOOD. RANDOM. FUN. {WEEK 15}

Lydia is spending a week of her Spring Break with us. As a almost 11 year old, she loves her technology... but, she indulged me by going to complete some errands in San Luis Obispo. Of course, we did some indulging for her! a bit of G.O.O.D. ice cream to give us energy to complete our tasks.
JPE made Cincinnati Chili for dinner Sunday... Lydia & I determined leftovers (Monday lunch) were even better than our dinner feast. A R.A.N.D.O.M. fact: Lydia's mommy, popi (dad) and grandpa (JPE) were all born & raised in Cincinnati.
I'm having a blast playing with WATERLOGUE. JPE cut these yellow irises & so I was showing Natasha & Lydia how my watercolor lessons are progressing (really, they haven't been started yet --- but, watching a photo being changed to a watercolor gives you an idea how watercolorists paint). Oh, so much F.U.N. Do give it a try!

GOOD.RANDOM.FUN {WEEK 10}

Had a meeting at Cal-Poly, SLO today!
All my pictures were taken while I was waiting for my meeting to start.
Several large spheres have been installed in front of the PAC (Performing Arts Center).

 Both pictures turned out GOOD!
I couldn't decide if I liked them in Black & White or Color... What do you think?

A couple of RANDOM flowers - that just happened to be the same colors.

the spectators chairs - overlooking the tennis court! Playing tennis is FUN, isn't it?

P52 {WEEK 50}

Saturday December 14th - JPE brought Mom & Katie up from So California. He had been attending a conference near Disneyland. We saw our nephew, Daniel dance in the Nutcracker at the historic Arlington Theater, Santa Barbara.
Sunday morning was pancakes & playing (I pulled a tub of Allie's Barbies out of the garage). And we took a drive to San Luis Obispo, and showed Katie around the Cal-Poly campus. Cal-Poly is noted for its Agriculture, Architecture, Business, Engineering, and Kinesiology programs.

An animal lover... of course, Katie needed to visit the horses, cows, sheep and goats. The goat manager introduced us to "Pepe" (Le Pew) - the only male in this field of pregnant females!

After an early dinner at Apple Farm Restaurant & exploring all three floors of the gift shop... We ended the day seeing Mary Poppins (third row seats) at PCPA. It was a truly "magical" weekend!

I'm posting this at Tamar's blog, Random-osity. We are counting down the last few weeks of 2013!

pictures are a bit blurry - taken with i-Pad mini!

10.13.13
TIME FOR SONG-OGRAPHY...

Drop by the blog, DON'T SHOOT YOUR EYE OUT
thank KATHY for hosting!
Looking out our bedroom slider...
JPE was the working man
(washed & waxed his car yesterday)
in the driveway...
NO rain and nothing burning...
HE wasn't saying anything...
BUT, I noticed the trees are turning colors
(see the reflection of his car roof)...

this definitely s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d my imagination!

and now, this week's
words:
M is FOR..., WHAT I SAW TODAY, CORNER, PINK and HANDS.

what more can I say... ghouls & goblins everywhere!
M IS FOR... MANIAC MUGS!

you'd think I liked Halloween? N-O!!
actually, it's my least favorite holiday...
But, WHAT I SAW (last night) were all these colorful photo ops!

the old Wineman HOTEL has been restored...
it really brightened one of the main intersections downtown SLO.
the CORNER rooms are rented to low-income, disabled seniors!

a PINK tutu - in the SOCK Shop window!

the HANDS of my hard-working JPE!
he made raspberry jam yesterday...
(& washed & waxed his car)

SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY 10.28.12

Bull's Tavern - SLO - 10.27.12
The one constant in my week (well, besides going to WORK) is participating in SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY (hosted by Ashley).
In looking at last week's post, it seems like those pictures were taken at least a month ago... instead of just 7-8 days. And... we're getting ready to start a new  month... Time flies!

Without further unnecessary chatting, here are the words for this week's SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY: PATTERN(S), MACHINE, SIGNS or LOGOS, ROCKS or STONES & SPARKLE.

PATTERN(S)
Don't you love the PATTERN a lawn mower makes in a yard? Of course, this lawn is perfection - it's the lawn at SYCAMORE MINERAL SPRINGS, Avila Beach. Gardners probably hand manicure it!?? The sidewalk is located outside HANDS GALLERY in SLO. It's a artsy gallery of "handmade" treasures (both local & from outside our area). The color of the tiles are certain to grab your attention... enticing you to enter & look around.

MACHINE
On our walk with Marcus, we saw this adorable little one person MACHINE at Sycamore Mineral Springs. Loved the deep navy blue color & the red leather satchel buckled behind the driver's seat.

SIGNS or LOGOS
San Luis Obispo County has quite a diverse population of residents. You're probably wondering what that has to DO with this SIGN? Throughout the county are agricultural lands... strawberries, bok choy, broccoli, peas, grapes (wineries), and many of the ranches have men & women who still ride horses to monitor the farmlands. If you ask locals, they'll say BULL'S TAVERN is a cowboy bar... it also has the distinction of being the "oldest" bar in San Luis Obispo. I've lived in SLO for 40 years, I've never been inside BULL'S... but I do appreciate their interesting neon SIGN.

ROCKS or STONES
Several weeks ago, JPE & I rented a hot tub at Sycamore Mineral Springs... this past week, our house guest rented a tub... as you enter the path to the massage area & hot tubs, this concrete bird bath holds a series of stacked STONES. Have you ever taken some time to make a pile of stacked stones? There's something peaceful about finding the smoothest, roundest, flattest STONES for stacking. Ahhh... relaxing.

SPARKLE
Bet you can't guess what this is??? It's actually a lamp with a shade made from an old juice cans... it has plenty of old-world charm & bling. Unfortunately, I took this picture through a store window & the lamp was turned off... use your imagination & I'm certain you'll be able to see the SPARKLE

Next week's words are: WILD, WELCOME, ADVENTURE, VIBRANT & CLASSIC. Dare you to participate!!
