ISTANBUL STREET ART...

Having nephews who appreciate street art & body adornments,
this post is dedicated to street art!
(ALL art was found in Istanbul)

bold & thin line lettering!

lettering = AMAZING!

Roger Rabbit & his motorcycle...

Mr. Spray Can...

building art near Galatasaray High School!

art in the alley way!

Spider Man & a modern woman...
(Bosphorus Strait)

Artist name? or musical instrument?
(at the bottom of the Galata Tower)

street art requires skill & talent... I can barely manage a paintbrush,
SO, I know using a spray can to create art must be a lot more difficult!!

FRIDAY FUNNIES 12.14.12

SLE'S ORNAMENT
Feeling nostalgic, I pulled Stephanie's tin of ornaments
out of the garage.
She's never moved them to Washington DC...
so the few ornaments we set out
(for this holiday season)
are hers!!

The girls (SLE & ACE) each has a collection of ornaments
that mirrored their interests
at different ages in their lives.

Stephanie was a dancer, so
many of her ornaments have a dance theme.

... AND THE FINAL JOKE FOR THIS WEEK...

see you next Friday for another edition
 of FRIDAY FUNNIES!

SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY 9.16.12

I had a lot of help with
this weekend!!
Both daughters & my mom
{as well as Lola}
participated in the hunt.
Here's our documentation for this week's words:

KISSASKEWFRAGRANTSIMPLE, PLANT

Yesterday at Target, Allie found this hat! she's planning to wear it during story-time in her kindergarten class. She tried it on for Lola... which created lots of excitement... Lola just couldn't figure out what was on Allie's head! her initial reaction was puzzlement, followed by curiosity, excitement, and then KISSES!

ASKEW is brought to you by Stephanie (SLE) & Lola. Stephanie volunteered to have me take a picture of her eyebrow... which was ASKEW. And, I couldn't pass up an opportunity to share Lola's tail... which has a funny little kink in it! Yes, she's a Boston Terrier - No, her breeder didn't clip her tail... she was born with her tail ASKEW.

The four of us are NOT shoppers! but, yesterday, after brunch at HOBEE'S RESTAURANT, Allie needed to return something at Target... one thing lead to another & we found ourselves browsing the clothes ranks... our shopping expedition expanded to the shops on Castro St in Mountain View. Stephanie bought this wonderful, lightly scented FRAGRANCE at East-West Bookstore.

THERAPY, another store, has a lot of unusual items... Allie thought this picture would meet the qualifications for the word, PLANT. The caption on the right hand page reads, "Please stop buying my friends if you are just going to slowly kill them." The girls know I don't have the best luck keeping indoor plants alive!!!

To share the diversity of the items found at THERAPY, here are some birdcages. Not your average, SIMPLE birdcage... but, something SIMPLY adorable... anything but ordinary!

We had a blast visiting! I dropped Stephanie at the San Francisco Airport at 7am this morning... she's heading back to Washington DC. Later today, Mom & I will drive back to Arroyo Grande.

Next week's words for SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY are:
CRACKED, FALLEN, ORDINARY COLOR, BOKEH & FENCE.

SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY 2.19.12

If you have elementary age kids, you'll recognize this guy!
Haven't posted much this week - more about that later!! Today is SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY & although I hadn't thought much about the hunt... I've managed to pull together a post.

So, without further delays... this week's words are:
LOVE, DUPLICATED, TRENDING / TRENDS, PAPER, & PLASTIC

LOVE
What a LOVE-LY surprise! On Thursday, there was a small package in the mail --- MOM gifted us a new set of pillowcases! They really "cozied-up" the guest bedroom - in fact, I've taken several naps in this room over the past four days! battling a FLU-BUG... I N.E.V.E.R nap, but these do make taking a nap LOVE-LY!! check out the bold HEARTS

DUPLICATED
A bit of RAIN this week... some scattered clouds... captured the moisture on this pair of flowers --- do you think this qualifies as an example of something DUPLICATED?

TRENDS / TRENDING
Ten years ago, I never would have predicted I'd be spending an afternoon break, sipping a coffee with my granddaughter, Lydia {currently an 8 year old}? I'm certainly N-O-T a trend-setter... BUT, JPE & I should have predicted this TREND based on the following picture of Lydia {dated January 2006, when she was 2}!

PREDICTING A TREND???
via Amazon.com

Another TREND... notice Lydia's blue tshirt & the first picture in this post...

Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series is a current reading TREND with the elementary school population.

When kids are asked what they like about the book series... their response is:

"the cartoons"

"the jokes"

"the stories make me laugh"

if you haven't taken a peek at this TREND, check HERE!

PAPER
Last Sunday, on the way home from visiting mom, I stopped at my favorite scrapbooking store... Scraparazzi {Whittier, CA}.  OOPS! sorry Mom!! didn't tell you I was making this stop!  This store has amazing PAPER --- and I L-O-V-E PAPER!
In fact, quite often I use scrapbooking PAPER as the background for my pictures. You can see another glimpse of scrapbook PAPER as backgrounds in this picture or also here! scrapbook PAPER is also used here!

PLASTIC
Was looking for something in the garage --- remembered these were stored there!! wonder if Barbie is planning a trip to the beach for her Spring Break?? Maybe I should let her know she left these PLASTIC glasses & visors in my garage!!

Wanna join in the SCAVENGER HUNT for next week?? The words are: CROSSED, A GLIMPSE, HANDWRITTEN, BLISS & GRAY

It's great fun & I know ASHLEY would enjoy your participation. Check in with her at Ramblings & Photos

video about

K I N D N E S S...

Who will you share this with?

If you want to know more about Amy,
here is what I found...

Amy Krouse Rosenthal: Miss(ion) Amy KR

Amy Krouse Rosenthal is on a mission: to inspire her vocalo audience through weekly, playfully interactive projects and invitations.  To say Rosenthal is a writer, filmmaker and radio host does not do justice to the variety and sheer innovation behind her creative endeavors.   She has published 12 children’s books (and 8 forthcoming) including The New York Times bestsellers Cookies: Bite Size Life Lessons and Duck! Rabbit! (which was also recently named the #1 children’s book of the year by Time magazine).  As for her adult work, Amazon named her Encyclopedia of an Ordinary Life one of the top 10 memoirs of 2005.  Rosenthal is also the creator of the ongoing film project, “The Beckoning of Lovely: A Feature Film Featuring You.” Her new role with vocalo.org is in the spirit of the Writers’ Block Party show which aired on WBEZ Radio from 2001-08.

UHHH! OHHH!

(cartoon from Toothpaste for Dinner)

OKAY!
I CONFESS!!
I'M SUPPORTING
THE LIBRARY SYSTEM!

I've been returning
my library books
LATE
for the past two months.
URRGHHH!
I think I should take a "break" from
checking out library books
until this summer...
(when I'm supposed to have more time
for leisurely reading).

I'm progressing on my
WORK PROJECT!
(see post from 4/23/10)...
Halfway done with
editing, formating
and

In honor of today's cartoon post -
- a quote about READING!

"The greatest gift is the passion for reading.
It is cheap, it consoles, it distracts, it excites,
it gives you knowledge of the world
and experience of a wide kind."
~ Elizabeth Hardwick,
American novelist
