ZOOMMMM?!!!

(pic taken 7/14/10)

"I am beginning to learn that it is
the sweet, simple things of life
which are the real ones after all."

~ Laura Ingalls Wilder, American female author
wrote the Little House series of books
based on her childhood as a pioneer family.

This week has zoomed by...

MONDAY ~
completed a work project
(health lesson for preschool - 2nd graders)

TUESDAY ~
slept in
(got to bed in wee-hours of morning
due to work project)
read on the patio ~ lovely, warm sunshine
made & wrote four cards
(snail mail ~ don't you love
walking to the mailbox &
pulling a card out of the box??)
returned library books
(trying to cut down on the late fees
~ doing much better than 4 months ago)
watched 4 hours of HGTV
(my indulgence when JPE is out of town)

WEDNESDAY ~
morning walk
made "rebus" card for Lydia
(a rebus is like a word puzzle
that uses pictures to represent
words or parts of words)
 BUT, I...
used sticker words + hand lettered words + picture stickers to write
a short story
about our camping trip

AHH! love my pens, glue stick & scissors!

Spent a good part?!!?
(actually three hours
slipped away before I realized it)
...of the day
looking for bloggers
from the UK...
in preparation for our trip to
L O N D O N ! ! !
(let the count-down begin)

had dinner w/girlfriend

THURSDAY  ~
d-e-c-l-u-t-t-e-r-e-d
kitchen cabinets,
pantry,
refrigerator,
magazine baskets,
(most difficult ~ I'm a magazine junkie)
chest of drawers!!

NOW - I have to deal with
two bags of trash!!?!!
(trash pick-up was today - oops!!)

Tomorrow's
agenda...
borrowing girlfriend's sewing machine
(fix two pairs of pants)
get some groceries
(JPE's coming home - yippeee!)
taking a box of files to work
(don't need them collecting dust here!)
taking three bags of "goodies"
my "fav" donation center...

Feeling
G-R-E-A-T
about my week!

WEEKWORD = FLAVOR...

 (pic taken 7/11/10)

My blogs were feeling stale so I visited Aimee's blog, artsyville for some inspiration.

I love her creative process & her art makes me smile!
She participates in "WEEKWORD" & asked bloggers to submit something that would signify their interpretation of the word:
FLAVOR

I wanted to understand more about "WEEKWORD" so I checked in with the person who originated this idea, and this is what I learned...

"long ago, the fabulous fruenswerk  http://fruenswerk2.blogspot.com/search/label/weekword
started a creative prompt called weekword,
much like illustration friday,
but open to any kind of interpretation -
photography, poetry, art, deep thoughts, randon neuron firings"

AIMEE's selected word ~ FLAVOR ~ was to be further identified by answering these questions....
  • what is your favorite hot spot for breakfast?
  • where is it?
  • what sort of dish?

JPE, Lydia & I just returned from a camping trip to Big Sur (coast of California; for those of you from another state)... If you camp, hopefully you will be able to reach into your memory bank... BUT, WE THINK the FLAVORS of food eaten in the outdoors is an "epicurean delight"...

"Camp-cakes"

with homemade strawberry jam

& a cup of cocoa

is

Y U M M Y!

Even the "simplest foods" tempt your tastebuds!

I'll be checking Aimee's blog for more inspiration...

INFLUENCED BY COLOR??!

(pic taken in Big Bear - April 2010)

"COLOR
is the place where our brain
and the universe meet."
~Paul Klee, artist

 Do you dream in COLOR?
(some people don't)

Are you attracted to certain COLORS?
(look at your clothes, furnishing, wall colors etc)

I'll bet you are!!

the walls in my home =
yellow-gold (makes me feel warm)
sage-green (is calming)
light mocha (umm... hot cocoa)

clothes =
greens, blues, plum
(clothes are hung by color in my closet)
white, black, grey & chocolate brown
(I consider these my "staples" ~ kind of like
sugar, flour, salt & cinnamon)

back to Paul Klee...
the composition of his art
IS...
 too modern?
 surreal?

 Chairs =  Paul Klee??

Tell me about
COLOR
in your life?

HAPPY BDAY ~ TB!!!

(pic taken 7/4/10)
Books we are using to plan our LONDON trip...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU....
"TB"

(oldest daughter & mother of Lydia)
celebrated her ?? birthday today!
umm... don't want to give away her age...
she was celebrating in Big Bear
with JMcG & friends!
Ms Lydia is on a trip to Cincinnati with her "Poppy" - visiting her grandparents there!

Went to the movies - JPE picked the movie
ECLIPSE (vampire movie)!

Liked it! didn't read the books!
left us hanging for the last movie!
not many people in the theater - probably all at the beach getting a space to watch the fireworks.

Watched the fireworks (Pismo Pier) show from the top of the hill by our house. Although there was FOG,
we could still see the majority of the show.
The "show master" mentioned that he would be aiming the fireworks "under the fog cover"...

No crowds to deal with!
Plenty to see!
Listened to houses around our
"viewing perch"
shoot off their explosive stash!

OLD-FASHION FUN!!

Most of day was spent researching, planning, and web-surfing for our coming London trip.

What is ONE site, museum, garden, town, store etc that we SHOULD NOT MISS when visiting London?

Please share ~ so we can add it to our
LONDON BUCKET LIST.

JARS "R" POPPING!

(pics taken ~ 7/2/10 ~ PLUM Jam)

"Ah! There is nothing like
staying at home for real comfort."
~ Jane Austen, author

JPE made PLUM JAM this afternoon!
He picked plums from his sister's backyard...
Technically they are NOT Japanese plums,
we actually don't know what kind of plums they are
- so, we'll call them
Goleta Plums (the city of origin).

It's Friday ~ and we are
"happy as clams"
hanging at home this weekend.

No plans!

I heard the last jar lid "POP" - only task left is to
put labels on the finished product.

JPE's favorite canning book...

For dinner, we're having ? ? ?

one of our favorite "comfort" foods...

peanut butter & plum jam sandwiches
on homemade bread!!!

YUMMY to the TUMMY!!

What's your favorite "comfort" food?
